Process
When you decide to give David Ensor Web Consulting a call, you’ll get an initial phone call to briefly discuss your needs. Subsequently, a process is followed according to your needs, but will generally follow these steps:
- One Hour Free Consultation *
Client’s receive an initial one hour appointment to discuss more specifically what is desired. After the first phone call, a quick questionnaire is emailed to be completed prior to this appointment. This allows us to discuss solutions in more detail. Things to consider might include: types of work, maintenance contracts, handling content/text to be included in the project. - The Proposal
After the meeting, an initial proposal will be developed and submitted to you within a few days of the initial appointment. Adjustments to the scope of the project are best made at this point before any work begins. - The Work
Upon approval of the proposal, work begins. There are several steps involved in this phase:- Data Gathering – It’s important for design layout to have a good handle on the content (or type of content) that will be in a web site, how many pages in the main navigation, forms to be used, whether a photo gallery will be used or any special plugins. It is also important to begin planning out the site descriptions for improved searchability.
- Design – The end result of this stage is a graphic layout (in an image format) for you to approve. Once approved, this gives a much clearer concept to the web developer on how the site is to be laid out and function.
- Development – This stage simply takes what was graphically shown in the design images and codes it into a web language.
- Testing
Once the “work” phase is complete, the client will see the project nearing its final phase so that testing and validation can be completed. This is the final phase of project work where we tweaks and adjustments to the project are made. After you approve the work, this ends any development work on the proposal. - Go Live
This final step is coordinated with the client to minimize impact of down-time to any existing sites or processes in-place. After the site “goes live”, a final invoice is submitted and the project is considered closed.
Maintenance & Add-Ons
Oftentimes, as organizations make adjustments to their business processes, or simply decide they want to add additional features to their web site, adjustments and additions can be added to a web site. These features can be requested as new work or, if the proposal includes general site maintenance (e.g. monthly/quarterly maintenance agreements), these things can occur after the site is completed.
* If general consulting is requested, the free consultation may not apply; ask for details.
